The family Cerovecki, with an unstoppable tradition over a century old, has been producing umbrellas and sunshades, which became known for their quality and durability.
Cotton umbrellas, gents formal umbrellas, ladies parasols, satin ladies umbrellas and the one and only «Sestine» umbrella -a sort of a trade mark of this town.
The Šestine umbrella dates back to the mid 18th century. It is a part of the folk costume worn in the Šestine region of Zagreb and a recognizable souvenir of Croatia’s capital. The art of making Šestine umbrellas by the traditional Cerovečki Crafts is a part of the Register of protected non-material cultural goods of the Republic of Croatia. Šestine umbrella is characterized by the red cotton canopy with multicolored horizontal stiripes on the edges, thick wooden shaft and naturally crooked chestnut hand.
Croatia is widely regarded as the original home of the necktie. While fighting alongside their Croat allies in the 17th century, the French were struck by the Croatian soldiers’ scarves. The look became fashionable and the French named the accessory the cravat (the Français-isation of the word Hrvat, or Croat). Croata plays this story hard and has blossomed into Croatia’s tie-selling leader with shops all over the country.
